SUSTAINABILITY

We believe a hotel should be more than just a place to stay. Casa Zala is built on the idea that hospitality can - and should - support the land it’s rooted in and the people who call it home.

Designed with Intention

Casa Zala was designed with the local environment in mind. We chose natural, locally sourced materials and intentionally avoided endangered woods like mangrove. We kept the design open and light, letting the breeze and the sounds of the ocean flow through. It’s a space that fits into the landscape, not one that fights against it.

Hospitality with Heart

Our team is made up of staff from El Paredón and surrounding villages. We provide fair wages, consistent employment, and a positive, inclusive work environment. Creating dignified jobs locally is central to our vision of sustainability—because environmental impact and social impact go hand in hand.

Minimizing Waste, Maximizing Care

We’ve eliminated single-use plastics across the hotel and instead offer reusable or biodegradable alternatives. All soaps and bodycare essentials are sourced from Mila Cosmética - a Guatemalan brand using only natural, biodegradable ingredients. We use glass bottles, compost organic waste, and we’re constantly looking for new ways to conserve resources and operate more efficiently.

Sustainable Paredón

Casa Zala is a member of Sustainable Paredón, a community-led initiative working to protect the future of this unique village. Alongside other hotels and businesses, we help fund regular trash collection, lifeguard salaries, secondary-school staff, and local infrastructure improvements. It’s an example of collective action creating measurable change—and we’re proud to be an active part of it.

A portion of every reservation at Casa Zala goes directly to this association, meaning each guest actively contributes to these efforts and to the long-term sustainable development of El Paredón.
